Du mercredi 20 juillet 2005 au jeudi 28 juillet s'est tenu le stage international d'été d'Othello. Il a réuni dix-sept participants de sept nationalités différentes ! Sans faille, l'organisation était signée Serge Benoit, Stéphane Nicolet et Monique Lecat. Voici la liste des participants ainsi que le programme des festivités othellistiques, ludiques et sportives. The international Othello summer camp took place Wednesday 20th of July 2005 to Thursday 28th of July. Seventeen people of seven different countries gathered under the impeccable organisation piloted by Serge Benoit, Stéphane Nicolet and Monique Lecat. Here's the list of participants and the intensive schedule of games, sports and all-things Othello! Thank's a lot to Thierry Lefebvre for english translation!

Mercredi 20 juillet : Après-midi et début de soirée : arrivée des stagiaires. Le soir, réunion de cadrage, attentes et propositions de chacun.

Wednesday 20th of July : After noon and early evening: arrival of the participants. Evening: Meeting to gather everyone’s suggestions and desires as to the rest of the week.

Jeudi 21 juillet : le matin, un tournoi de Blitz est remporté par Stéphane Nicolet.

Thursday 21st of July : Stéphane Nicolet wins the Blitz tournament.

L'après-midi, Marc Tastet commente une partie qui l'a opposé à Henry Aspenryd, lors de l'édition 2005 du tournoi de Stockholm. Puis Mario Madrona présente quelques problèmes.

In the afternoon, Marc Tastet comments a game he played with Henry Aspenryd during the 2005 Stockholm EGP. Then Mario Madrona gratified us with a couple endgame problems.

Le soir, une partie de volley-ball oppose deux équipes de cinq et six joueurs. Jouée en cinq sets, elle sera palpitante, l'équipe perdante laissant passer sa chance après avoir bénéficié d'une balle de match !

In the evening, a volley-ball game opposing two teams of 5 and 6 goes into 5 sets! The losing team let it slip after their missed match point!

Vendredi 22 juillet : le matin, Emmanuel Caspard analyse de façon détaillée une partie entre Ben Seeley et Suekuni Makoto, lors du dernier championnat du monde. Il commence en disant : "je n'ai pas encore compris pourquoi Ben a gagné..."

Friday 22nd of July : in the morning, Emmanuel Caspard, goes through a Seeley-Suekuni game of the last WOC. His opening line: "I'm still not sure why Ben won this..."

L'après-midi, nous allons dans le bois voisin pour y disputer des parties par équipes de deux joueurs, d'abord parlantes, ensuite silencieuses. Le soir, nous ferons deux concours de finales avec Happy End, respectivement remportés par Nicky et Michele. Mais Thierry L. (c'est moi !) fera deux fois deuxième.

In the afternoon, we head for the woods to play two-player team games. Two Happy Endtournaments are the plan for the night. Nicky and Michele win one each but Thierry L. (that’s me!*) who didn't do too bad himself... came in second twice!

Le soir, une partie de basket oppose quelques stagiaires.

Late in the afternoon, a basket-ball game among trainees.

Samedi 23 juillet : le matin, Remko commente une partie puis Nicky fait de même.

Saturday 23rd of July : Remko comments a game in the morning and then Nicky.

L'après-midi, Stéphane Nicolet cherche à répondre à la question : "C'est quoi un style de jeu ?".

In the afternoon, Stéphane Nicolet tries to provide an answer to the tricky question : "What is a gaming style?"

Le soir commence un tournoi de ping-pong qui se terminera quelques jours plus tard par la victoire de Cédric Dauba.

In the evening, a ping-pong tournament kicks off. Cédric Dauba will be proclaimed victor a few days later.

Dimanche 24 juillet : Stéphane Nicolet continue à développer la question : "C'est quoi un style de jeu ?" Ensuite, Michele nous fait son autobiographie de sa vie d'Othelliste, de ses premières parties contre son téléphone portable jusqu'à aujourd'hui.

Sunday 24th of July : Stéphane Nicolet elaborates a bit more on "What is a gaming-style?" Then Michele sketches an autobiography of his Othello-life from his first games against his mobile phone to today.

L'après-midi, nous partons visiter la grotte de Lombrives et nous pique-niquons sur la route au retour.

In the afternoon, we go and visit a huge cave in Lombrives and picnic on the way back.

Le soir, nous faisons du prosélytisme auprès des sportifs de haut niveau présents dans le centre.

In the evening, we initiate the professional athletes in the centre to Othello.

Lundi 25 juillet : la majorité du groupe part pour une randonnée de 20 km et 1100 mètres de dénivellé. Les autres font un périple dans le train jaune.

Monday 25th of July : most trainees go for a 20km (approx. 12 miles) walk with a 1100 metres (approx 0.7 miles) climb. The others go off for a train-ride.

Mardi 26 juillet : le matin, Thierry Lévy-Abégnoli détaille une ouverture assez peu connue, qu'il emploie afin d'éviter un autre ouverture qu'il n'aime pas. Puis Stéphane Nicolet fait un exposé particulièrement brillant sur deux structures qu'il a récemment découvertes. L'après-midi, ce même Stéphane gagne un très amusant tournoi avec contraintes. Puis nous regardons la vidéo que les espagnols ont réalisé au championnat du monde 2004. Le soir, nous irons à la patinoire.

Tuesday 26th of July : In the morning, Thierry Lévy-Abégnoli presents a little known opening he uses to get out of another one he dislikes. Then Stéphane Nicolet brilliantly presents two structures he discovered recently. In the afternoon, the same Stéphane wins an amusing little tournament with constraints to your game-play. We then watch a video the Spanish team made during the 2004 WOC. In the evening, it's off to the ice-skating ring!

Cette partie a opposé Cédric à Henrik durant le tournoi avec contraintes ! Henrik a très vite compris que la contrainte de Cédric était de conserver à la pendule un temps supérieur au sien. Du coup il a joué très vite, poussant Cédric à en faire autant. En arrière-plan, Stéphane Dousse goûte subtilement le cocasse de la situation.

This is a game between Cédric and Henrik during the tournament with constraints. Henrik quickly realised that Cédric's constraint was to have more time on his clock than his opponent so he played very rapidly forcing Cédric to do the same. In the background, Stéphane Dousse enjoys the show.

Mercredi 27 juillet : le matin, Henrik commente une partie puis nous faisons un tournoi sur ouverture imposée que Marc remporte brillamment. L'après-midi, nous faisons un tournoi plus classique, en cinq rondes et 2 x 20 minutes. Emmanuel Caspard s'impose avec talent.

Wednesday 27th of July : In the morning, Henrik comments on a game and we then play a tournament with fixed starting positions. Marc brilliantly comes out on top. In the afternoon, we play a classic 2 x 20 minutes tournament in five rounds. Emmanuel Caspard demonstrates his know-how.

Mercredi en fin d'après-midi, certains d'entre nous font une course sur soixante mètres. Michele l'emporte tandis que Thierry se claque un muscle et que Mario chute lourdement, se faisant de multiples écorchures.

Wednesday, in the late afternoon, a couple of us decide to run a 60 metre dash. Michele comes in first while Thierry strains a muscle and Mario falls heavily cutting himself profusely.
